Hi, I’m Alex
Musician, Climber, Mindset Coach.
As a classically trained musician with over a decade of experience performing and coaching at an elite level, I have cultivated a performance mindset that is resilient in the face of failure, confident in the presence of fear, and capable of enduring years of disciplined, methodical practice.
Since embarking on my climbing journey, I have been continually amazed by the profound overlap between climbing and musical performance, and how the skills developed in one discipline have directly enhanced my abilities in the other.
In essence, a climber can learn from a musician how to think and feel their way through performance — how to prepare with intention, execute with presence, and grow with discipline. It's less about what the body is doing and more about how the mind is leading it.
These hard won skills and experience are what inform my coaching, and I have every confidence that these attributes allow me not only to help my clients develop the mental and emotional resilience required for sustained success, but also to enjoy the process.

Hear what my clients have to say about Boulder Thoughts Coaching:

Alex was always encouraging and pushed me but never too far so I always felt very safe trying things he suggested.
I was recently working a route in the roof that made me scared (my fear is visceral rather than specific thoughts so often I just can’t move). I recognised what it was and thought about how I could work through it. I went through each move using the tools Alex had given me and then within a couple of days I sent it. This has been the case with quite a few climbs I just wouldn’t have tried.
It’s really opened up so many more options for me in the gym now because I have the skills to deal with what would have been brick walls. It’s given me back enjoyment for climbing which I had lost with being scared all the time! I also ticked off a climb outside that had been a mental battle for a couple of seasons.
I can’t recommend Alex enough as you can tell from the above :)

I really appreciate the opportunity to grow that you are presenting. Even after only one session, the shift I’ve already felt is massive and it’s been very inspiring. I now believe that I can improve my climbing and I can create my own goals when it comes to learning new skills and techniques.
So, what do you think?
